About dietary supplements, use and intake

Food supplements are concentrates of vitamins, minerals and other substances (e.g. amino acids, plant extracts, micro-organisms, etc.) with a physiological or nutritional effect. Their purpose is to enrich a normal diet and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Because you cannot start taking care of your body early enough. You can do that proactively, as in: Start at a young age. Or reactively, as in: When the problem arises, try to solve it. Compare it to brushing your teeth. You don't start when it's too late. So first deal with diseases by preventing them.

Research shows that the average nutrient content of a wide range of fruit and vegetables declined by tens of percentage points between 1985 and 2002 alone. Soil depletion, air pollution, rapid growth, long term storage and transport are cited as causes. The food industry also contributes to the impoverishment of our diet. The supermarket is full of processed and refined products. The products must above all be made attractive to the consumer, and everything else is subordinated to this.

If you feel low on energy, if your immunity is lowered, if you feel stressed, if you sleep badly or as a detoxifier due to an unhealthy lifestyle (alcohol, smoking, drugs, etc.).

Of course! All our formulas have been extensively tested by external homologated laboratories. For example, we have had stability tests and recovery tests carried out. Each batch of our supplements is also tested for identity, purity, strength and composition, so we can be sure that what is on the label is in the capsules and also in the bag.

The FAVV or the 'Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain' is a federal agency responsible for regulating products that affect public health, such as food products and supplements. The FAVV plays an important role in ensuring the safety of the products we use every day, but is not a source of approval for every industry under its supervision.

In the food supplements industry, the FAVV acts as an enforcement and regulatory authority. This includes defining and enforcing what supplement companies can claim about their products. In order to guarantee public safety, the FAVV has defined Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), which it enforces by means of inspections. It also has the power to prosecute, seize and remove dangerous products from the market.

Food supplements differ substantially from medicines. Medicines have acquired a prominent place in society, and traditionally they look very much like food supplements. Nutritional deficiencies are too often treated with medicines, whereas eliminating these deficiencies is the most logical solution. First nutrition, then medicine. And dietary supplements are a part of nutrition.

According to the FASFC and the FAMHP (Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products) medicines are intended to treat, prevent, alleviate, diagnose or cure diseases. Medicines are therefore highly regulated. Clinical trials on humans must demonstrate that a pharmaceutical drug is safe and effective for its intended use. Next, the medicine must be manufactured and packaged under controlled conditions to meet strict labelling standards before it is approved by the FAMHP for consumer use.

Unlike medicines, the FASFC says that food supplements are for nutritional purposes only. As supplements are not considered as medicines, they are not controlled in the same way.

Although the FASFC has some consignments for production and labelling, food supplements have different guidelines for testing, safety and efficacy than pharmaceutical medicines. Unlike medicines, supplements do not need to be approved by the FAMHP before they are released for sale to the consumer. Only a notification dossier that includes the ok from the FASFC is sufficient here.

Just listed:

  • Medication works mainly symptomatically. Nutritional supplements address the cause.
  • Medicines have a role in acute conditions to counteract uncomfortable symptoms. Nutrients work mainly in a preventive way, such as against chronic illnesses
  • A nutrient is intrinsically a part of the metabolism and helps to promote metabolic processes. This is in contrast to medicines, whose effect is to block or inhibit metabolic processes, thereby relieving pain, for example.
  • From an evolutionary point of view, nutrients belong to the body. And so does the body. For example, the body needs antioxidants to survive in an environment with oxygen. Medicines, on the other hand, contain substances foreign to the body.
  • You can never have a shortage of medicines, but you can have a shortage of nutrients. Therefore, there is no such thing as a deficiency disease for medicines as, for example, scurvy is a result of a vitamin C deficiency.
  • Medicines prefer to work alone. Nutrients work together in every cell of the body. Is there a shortage of one? Then this is the weakest link in the entire metabolic machinery, so that the radar work no longer functions optimally.
  • A vitamin or mineral is an essential nutrient. Our bodies cannot produce these substances themselves, but we cannot live without them. Hence the term 'essential'. This cannot be said of a medicine.

The law states that firms marketing dietary supplements cannot suggest, insinuate or claim that their product diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents diseases of any kind. Therefore, you often see rather vague wording about what a dietary supplement does. This is the result of the claims legislation. The FAVV enforces claims to ensure that food supplement companies follow the approved consignments for claims that are allowed for supplements.

No, not really. The FAVV does not "approve" food supplements. The FAVV only checks the constitution, production and labelling of food supplements and inspects firms on a regular basis to make sure they comply with the regulations. If a food supplement company does not comply with the FAVV regulations, the FAVV can forbid them to sell their product within Belgium or the EU.

  • A balanced formula of high-dose vitamins and minerals.
  • Vitamin E has an important role as an antioxidant. It is a substance that prevents oxidation and therefore the formation of free radicals in our bodies.
  • Vitamin C has the function of an antioxidant and is needed for the formation of connective tissue, the absorption of iron and the maintenance of resistance.
  • Vitamins B6, B9, B12, C, D, iron, selenium and zinc contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system.
  • Vitamins B2, B3, B6, B12, C, iron and magnesium help reduce fatigue.
  • Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B8, B12, C, iron, magnesium and manganese contribute to normal energy metabolism.
  • Vitamin B3 (niacin) breaks down food into energy.
  • Vitamin B1 and B2 support the heart and nervous system, help the memory and contribute to a good level of concentration.
  • Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is one of the most important vitamins for human life: It is necessary for the production of blood cells.
  • Vitamin B8 (biotin) is a coenzyme that helps break down carbohydrates, various amino acids and fatty acids.
  • Vitamin D helps regulate blood levels, the heart and veins, lungs and airways.
  • Vitamin D is necessary for obtaining calcium from food. It helps maintain strong bones and teeth.
  • Numerous studies show that high levels of vitamin D improve mental health and boost immunity.
  • Severe vitamin D deficiency can lead to muscle weakness and muscle spasms.
  • Zinc ensures protein building, tissue growth and renewal, metabolism and proper functioning of the immune system.
  • Several studies show that high levels of vitamin D improve and boost mental health.

Melatonin is a hormone that occurs naturally in the body. Melatonin is most commonly used for insomnia and improving sleep under various conditions. For example, it is used for jet lag, to adjust sleep-wake cycles in people whose daily work schedule changes.

  • Melatonin influences the sleep-wake cycle.
  • The brain activates this hormone to signal that it is time to rest.
  • Melatonin is used for many forms of insomnia.
  • Natural melatonin levels drop with age.
  • The most obvious reason for taking Melatonin is to get sleepy.
  • Melatonin is used for many forms of insomnia.
  • For people who come off a night shift, have jet lag or have trouble falling asleep.

To cope with the increase in chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, rheumatism, cancer and diabetes, the use of food supplements is a necessity. Modern nutrition falls short, even if you eat a varied and healthy diet. This is because we have only grown up with today's processed industrial food for two generations. For millions of years, man was a hunter-gatherer. For a few hundred generations, we depended on agriculture and only 10 generations have lived since the beginning of the industrial age. The result is that our genes don't know any more. For our bodies have remained genetically virtually identical all this time.

Orthomolecular medicine can be described as: "the maintenance of good health and the treatment of disease by varying the concentrations normally present in the human body".

About Curocaps

Food supplements via classical tablets are not suitable for everyone and have a strong connotation with 'being ill'. The innovative aspect of Curcocaps lies in the way it is consumed: the supplements are contained in Nespresso® -compatible capsules that are used in the well-known coffee and tea machines, which are consumed as a delicious hot or cold drink. This way the intake is also included in the daily routine and reduces the chance of forgetting.

Curocaps only work with the Nespresso Original machine compatible with Nespresso® Original capsules. This excludes the Nespresso® Vertuo machines.

The climate-neutral, biodegradable and home-compostable capsules are a sustainable alternative to the harmful plastic and aluminum capsules of the traditional players in the coffee market. The capsules are extremely popular and consist of 100% reusable raw materials. They are home-compostable at 12 weeks. They contain no aluminum or plastic. So you don't throw them in the PMD but in the regular organic waste or on your compost heap.

Curocaps are completely plastic-free. They are made from natural materials that are 100% derived from bio-based cellulose and vegetable oil.

Dr Peter Aelbrecht has technologically developed this new way of taking food supplements to replace the traditional pills - often forgotten or difficult to swallow - that people too often associate with illness.

The capsules compost at 12 weeks. So you throw the capsules in the VGF waste and not with PMD. They contain no plastic or aluminum. Here you will find more information about the capsules.

You can drink the Curocaps hot or cold. Of course, you have to run them through the machine every time. If you prefer to drink them cold, try an ice cube!
The Curocaps are 100% Belgian. The ingredients come from Belgian suppliers, our labs where they are developed and our own production line where they are encapsulated are all thoroughly Belgian.
  • Years of scientific research and extensive knowledge of Dr. Peter Aelbrecht in orthomolecular medicine and the development of formulas for the food supplement industry.
  • Years of scientific research in functional and nutritional biology by Dr. Peter Aelbrecht as Chief Scientific Officer at Labophar N.V.
  • Many people have trouble swallowing pills
  • Pills evoke association with illness
  • Pills are often forgotten ~ Are not part of daily routine
  • Enjoyment moment absent with pills
  • When taking pills sober, people experience stomach discomfort

Are you a diabetic taking pills or injecting insulin? There are 2 strains through the band: You adjust your injection schedule to what you eat. Or you adjust your eating schedule to what you're injecting.

Specifically, 1 capsule contains less than 1/3 carbohydrate exchange value. I.e. less than 4gr of carbohydrates per cap.

But best to talk this through with your dietitian or diabetes educator. Or you email for more info to support@curocaps.be. We have a seasoned dietitian on our team.

Yes, most formulas are vegan. In particular Sleep, Temporary Stress, Energy and Detox.

Immunity and Multivit are not vegan.

The capsules stay at their best if they are kept away from strong draughts, damp places and sources of heat.

Sometimes the powder in the cap may stick together a little due to the natural characteristics of some of these high quality organic products. So shake the cap quickly to start. Carefully place the cap in the machine, making sure it is in the right position. Push the lever/handle down firmly to ensure that the cap is fully pierced. Select the desired drink size, wait for the machine to warm up and press the button. And so you have a delicious, healthy hot drink!
